[ before i forget: ]

David Bowie's Let's Dance was released in 1983. The first track, "Modern Love," was probably filling dancefloors for a solid six months before the 80s kitsch-classic "Footloose" was released in 1984. While I don't know precisely when Kenny Loggins' title track to the movie's soundtrack was written, odds are good it was after Bowie's "Modern Love."

And that, dear readers, is called plagiarism. Odds are good I'm a good twenty years behind the times on that particular revelation (creepy that we're so old already), but I dare you to deny me the striking similarities 'twixt these two songs.

Further notes from Let's Dance: a rather high amount of electroclash borrows from (read: desperately wants to be, or at least have as much fun as) David Bowie's "Fashion at 144 bpm. Discuss.

I'll be in Boston, working on grad school applications, fleshing out my thesis, and writing an amazingly long post mourning the worst semester of my academic career as best as my stunted emotions allow.

Music: Hours of Bowie (but not Hours..., ironically enough), both old and new.
